چکیده
Simulating hydrodynamic conditions in palaeo-ocean basins is needed to better understand the effects of tidal forcing on sedimentary record. When combined with analyses, modelling can help inform complex temporal and spatial variability sediment distribution tide-dominated basins. Herein, palaeotidal epicontinental Upper Jurassic (160 Ma, lower Oxfordian) Sundance Curtis seas North America reveals possible regional-scale variations dynamics response changes ocean forcing, physiographic configuration bottom drag coefficient. A numerical model forced an M2 constituent at open boundary shows that magnitude location amplification, current velocity bed shear stress basin, were controlled by palaeophysiography. Numerical results obtained using a depth 600 m system enable prediction major facies trends observed Formation. The simulation also highlight certain palaeophysiographic configurations either permit or prevent resonance, leading overall amplification dampening tides across basin. Furthermore, some generated additional harmonics specific parts Consequently, similar successions emerge from variety relative sea-level scenarios, may be deposited different basin any given scenario. These suggest interpretation strongly tide-influenced should consider changing sea level physiography.

Remote Sensing of Tidal Situation by Monitoring Changes in Suspended Sediment Concentration in Surface Waters
Collecting information on suspended sediments concentration (SSC) in coastal waters and estuaries is vital for proper management of coastal environments. Traditionally, SSC used to be measured by time consuming and costly point measurements. This method allows the accurate measurement of SSC only for a point in space and time. Remote sensing from air-borne and space-borne sensors have proved to...
متن کاملEstuarine Adjustment to Changes in River Flow and Tidal Mixing
The adjustment of estuarine circulation and density to changes in river flow and tidal mixing is investigated using analytical and numerical models. Tidally averaged momentum and salinity equations in a rectangular estuary are vertically averaged over two levels, resulting in equations that are analytically tractable while retaining a broad range of time-dependent behavior. It is found that bot...
متن کاملShear Production and Dissipation in a Stratified Tidal Flow
The long term goal of this work is to understand the physics of turbulent stratified shear flows as might be found in coastal regions and estuaries where both shear and stratification are strong. It is our hypothesis that turbulence under these conditions of active generation may function in a way that is fundamentally different from weak turbulence below the thermocline (or above the bottom mi...
متن کاملTidal Dynamics in the Sand Motor Lagoon
The Sand Motor is a mega-nourishment characterized by a very large sand volume of around 20 million m placed along the Dutch coast. The Sand Motor is a pilot project to evaluate the performance of an alternative nourishment strategy with respect to different functions of the coastal system. Within the scope of the coastal functions, the hook-shaped design of the initial morphology of the Sand M...
